Scuba Tanks
With proper training and equipment, Bahamas diving can be both fun and safe. A scuba tank is one of the necessary pieces of diving gear. The tank holds compressed air that you breathe during the dive. Tanks are made of steel alloy or aluminum alloy. Speakers of American English generally say “scuba tank” or “diving tank,” while speakers of British English often use the term “diving cylinder” to refer to the equipment.
The dive regulator connects to the tank valve. Turning the wheel controls the flow of breathing air. Tanks and regulators come in one of two systems: DIN or yoke. A DIN regulator screws directly into the valve. On the other hand, with a yoke system, the regulator bracket slides over the valve. Generally, people choose whichever system is most common where they live. Either system is fine, as long as your regulator and tank are of the same system.
Tanks come in different sizes. Larger tanks will allow you to dive for longer periods of time, but you do not want a tank that is too big for you to easily wear and carry.
Some divers prefer to fill their tanks with enriched air. This air has extra oxygen to lower the amount of nitrogen. Tanks need special preparation and markings for enriched air.
All scuba tanks are required to carry stamp markings, which provide necessary information about the tank. This way, people at any dive shop around the world can easily and safely identify the type of tank and the proper contents and pressure for the tank.
One of the great things about Bahamas diving is that you will find the Bahamas has a diving infrastructure in place. Equipment and lessons are readily available. For example, if you do not have your own tank, you can rent one locally. Or, even if you have your own scuba tank, you may find it more convenient not to fly with the tank. When you get to the Bahamas, you will find everything you need to enjoy some of the best diving on earth.
